Srinagar, Aug 28: The National Panthers Party (NPP) and CPI(M) today created uproar in the Legislative Assembly over the price rise before staging walk out after Speaker rejected discussion on it saying that it is a global phenomenon.
The NPP MLAs and lone CPI(M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami wanted a discussion on price rise in the State.
The NPP members led by Harshdev Singh rose to their feet as soon as Assembly session started proceedings in the morning.
The MLAs of the two parties disrupted the House as they were demanding suspension of the business and discussion on adjournment motion moved by them (NPP) to discuss price rise.
Singh, stressing for discussion in the House on the price rise, said that price rise is menacing threat to common man. “We are not discussing it. We are not taking any steps to control it”, he said.
Holding black-marketing and hoarding responsible for the price rise, the MLA said that Government has failed to curb it. “Where are Acchay Din” as promised by the BJP during electioneering”, he asked.
Singh said: “We should do justice with common man.” The NPP MLAs joined by Tarigami raised slogans against the Government and demanded controlling rising food prices. He said State Government has to check the price rise so that people don’t feel the burden.
The MLA said there was unprecedented rise in the prices of everything, particularly essentials. “Profiteering and black marketing has also increased”, he said, adding Centre has to take measures to control it.
Tarigami also demanded a discussion saying it has become impossible for common people to survive when prices of everything has gone up several fold.
However, speaker Mubarak Gul disallowed the motion and said he has directed the Government to make a statement on the floor of the House.
The Speaker’s decision agitated the NPP members who stormed into the Well of the House, raising slogans “Gareeb Aadmi Ko Insaaf Do”, “Mehangayee Ko Rook Lagav’. They later sat on the floor of the well of the House.
Tarigami, who remained standing near his seat did not join NPP members in the Well.
The NPP members and lone CPI(M) member walked out from the House in protest.
