One month imprisonment to bootlegger

KATHUA, Sept 23: Chief Judicial Magistrate Kathua, Amarjeet Singh Langeh today convicted one Surinder Kumar son of  Gian Chand R/o Chack Drab Khan tehsil & district Kathua and sentenced with one month jail and imposed a fine of Rs.1000 in addition for illegally selling illicit liquor to public at large.
According to case registered at Police Station Kathua under FIR No. 165 of 2011 for offence under Section 48(a) of Excise Act the accused was indulging in sale of illicit liquor and on 29-05-2011 he was found in possession of four liters of illicit liquor which he was selling to general public at Taraf Sanji in the field near his house. During investigation the accused was arrested with illicit liquor and challan against him was presented in the court on September 5.
During trial in the court the witnesses examined by the prosecution proved that the accused was in possession of illicit liquor when he was apprehended by the police. The accused failed to satisfactorily account for the possession of liquor and court found the prosecution evidence to be cogent, reliable and trustworthy and therefore convicted the accused person for a sentence of one month simple imprisonment and fine of Rs.1000.
The case was prosecuted in the court by the Chief Prosecuting Officer Vikrant Sharma and Senior Prosecuting Officer  Manmohit Sharma.
The accused has been lodged in District Jail Kathua in pursuance to the judgement passed by the Court of Ld. Chief Judicial Magistrate Kathua.
