Omar demands dissolution of Assembly

SRINAGAR, July 13: Former Chief Minister and vice president of National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah today said that as no one is interested in forming the Government, the Governor should dissolve the Assembly.
Speaking to reporters at Srinagar, Omar said there is no fun of keeping Assembly in suspended animation. “I don’t know the exact reasons but we have been continuously conveying that if nobody is willing to form a Government then what is the fun of keeping the Assembly like this. Everyday news comes that someone has joined another party or a revolt is happening in a party, through these things not only confusion is created but an uncertainty or bad taste is being put in the politics”, he said.
The NC leader said that keeping Assembly in suspended animation results in horse trading. “We request Governor that there is no fun in keeping Assembly like this as we don’t have any work. We cannot spend our CDF or can’t hold meeting with the officers in our areas or solve people’s problems, then for what reason we are taking our salaries. Drawing salaries without any work is just wastage of money. Horse trading should be stopped, salaries should be stopped and Assembly should be dissolved. When the situation will improve, civilian killings will stop and anger among the people will be reduced, then we will talk about elections”, he said.
“Although the Governor did not come today as they might be busy with some work but at least one of the advisors would have come. This is not the program of any organization, this is a State function and it should be treated as a State function”, he said on Governor NN Vohra not visiting Martyrs graveyard.
“The way a meeting was organized at the Secretariat, I don’t think this should have been done. This 13th July is not about any particular individual or any religion, this was against a rule and whole country was involved in that war. I don’t think there is any bad thing in honoring this function, this is a state function and it should be honored well”, he said.
He said that the situation will improve once the civilian killings are stopped. “We often said that unless the civilian killings are stopped in Kashmir, the situation will never improve. At one side if we want that the youth should not take arms and should move forward towards education and sports and there should be development in the State particularly in Kashmir, then it is important to first stop the civilian killings. Unless Governor stops these killings, it is impossible to normalize the situation here”, he said.
