Omar cozying up to BJP

JAMMU, Dec 21: Cozying up to the BJP in the aftermath of party’s anticipated poor showing in the Assembly elections, Chief Minister and National Conference president Omar Abdullah today said the previous UPA Government headed by the Congress should have conferred Bharat Ratna on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
In a tweet tonight, Omar said the UPA Government, which was headed by Dr Manmohan Singh, should have risen above politics and conferred Bharat Ratna on Vajpayee under whose Prime Ministership Omar had served as Minister for External Affairs and Commerce.
“I wish the UPA Government had risen above politics and conferred the Bharat Ratna on Vajpayee Sahib, would have been a fitting gesture,’’ Omar said when just a day was left for counting and declaration of Assembly election results.
As per the opinion polls, the BJP was emerging a strong political force in Jammu and Kashmir by touching highest ever tally between 27 to 33 while the NC was faring badly at third place behind the PDP and BJP.
