Oil & Tankers Association suspends supplies to Kashmir, Leh

JAMMU: Due to the prevailing security situation across Kashmir Valley, the J&K Oil and Tankers Association have decided to put off all the fresh supply for the valley for indefinite period after some miscreants attacked the tankers.

Asserting that the association will resume the supply only when sufficient security was provided to them en-route Jammu-Sringar highway, the oil tanker operators alleged, since the security situation worsened in Kashmir Valley drivers of the oil and petrol tankers have been attacked and also facing hardships.

Anan Sharma President, J&K Oil and Tankers Association said, “Our drivers are scared as they have been receiving threats from local people”. He said “keeping in view of the prevailing security situation we have decided to suspend the supplies to Srinagar, Kargil and Leh and also have requested the State administration to provide us security cover to maintain the supply line”.

Mr Sharma alleged some of them (drivers) have been thrashed and windscreens of majority of the tankers have been broken by stone pelters in the area. (AGENCIES)
