OGW arrested, searches at multiple places

SRINAGAR, Dec 8: Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants along with four live grenades in Chadoora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district while massive searches against militants were launched at several places across Kashmir.

Police said that an OGW was apprehended in Chadoora area of Budgam district from whose possession four live grenades have been recovered.
He has been identified as Muhammad Younis Sheikh, a resident of Chill Brass village of Arizal Budgam.
Army’s 30 RR and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Police cordoned off Rather Mohalla of Ananwan Hajin village in Handwara forest area of North Kashmir after reports about presence of militants.
The cordon-and-search operation in the area was launched after reports of presence of militants in the area. Some warning shots were fired by army. However, there was no response from the militants. The cordon around the area was strengthened.
Security forces today fired in air to disperse protesters who were trying to disrupt an anti-militancy operation in Devsar area of Kulgam in South Kashmir.
Army’s 19 RR, SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF cordoned off Devsar in Kulgam following inputs about the presence of at least three militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba including Shakoor.
As they approached the spot, they were pelted stones by the locals to disrupt the operation. Security forces fired teargas shells and fired in air to disperse the protests. Sources said that the militants either fled during the stone pelting or they fled before the operation was launched. However, the operation was called off at around 9 p.m.
Army’s 44 RR and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police today cordoned off Mughalpora Keegam in Shopian after reports about presence of militants in the village. However, the operation was called off after no militants were found there.
Army’s 53 RR and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police today cordoned off Putrigam village in Pulwama district after reports about presence of militants in the village. However, the operation was called off after no militants were found there.
Army’s 9 RR and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police today cordoned off Churat village in Kulgam district after reports about presence of militants in the village. However, the operation was called off after no militants were found there.
In the meantime, protests erupted at multiple places across Kashmir today against recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel by the United States even as authorities imposed curfew-like restrictions in parts of old Srinagar to prevent violence.
The protests were called by separatist alliance led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik against the recognition of disputed Jerusalem as capital of State of Israel by United States President Donald Trump.
Authorities placed Mirwaiz and Geelani under house detention and imposed curbs in parts of downtown city here to prevent violence.
The restrictions were imposed in parts of areas falling under police station Maharaj Gunj, Rainawari, Safa Kadal, Nowhatta and Khanyar. Hundreds of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel were deployed in restriction-bound areas since morning hours who had erected mobile bunkers and laid concertina wire to enforce curbs. The historic Jama Masjid in Nowhatta was sealed off completely by security forces.
No Friday congregational prayers were allowed at Jama Masjid by security forces as they feared violent protests. However, the congregational prayers in all other mosques of downtown areas were allowed normally. Protests against United States and Israel broke out at Nawa Kadal, Hasanabad, Barzulla, Pantha Chowk, Habak and Maisuma areas of the city. After protests, clashes broke out at Nawa Kadal area of the downtown city.
The protests against the US decision also broke out in parts of Pulwama, Anantnag Kupwara, Baramulla and Budgam districts. In Budgam, thousands of people took to streets in Main Town against US and Israel. The protest, however, concluded peacefully. Clashes broke out in Pulwama and Anantnag townships between protesters and security forces.
