JAMMU, Oct 2: National Secular Forum (NSF) today staged a demonstration against authorities of University of Jammu (JU) for adopting discriminatory approach against students by proposed introduction of tuition fee for all its courses from the academic session 2018-19.
Led by NSF State president, Dr Vikas Sharma, scores of activists raised slogans against the VC. Addressing the protesting activists, Dr Sharma said, “The varsity authorities have been spending crores of rupees on their luxury out of the institution’s exchequer and the same is drying up fast. Now to make up the same they have devised a new method i.e. introduction of tuition fee @ Rs 3000 for Science subjects and Rs 2000 for Non-Science subjects over above the annual hike of 10 percent in fee every since 2014.”
Stating that the move will put extra burden on thousands of students studying in PG departments and colleges affiliated to Jammu University, Dr Sharma demanded withdrawal of resolution of University Syndicate, which passed the Item No 112.04 that sought the introduction of tuition fee for UG, PG, M Phil and PhD programmes.
