JAMMU, Jan 25: Seeking intervention of Chancellor N N Vohra, National Secular Forum (NSF) today alleged misuse of power and exploitation of varsity exchequer for leisure by the JU administration.
“A top-notch SUV in excellent condition has been stationed and biting dust at JU Health Centre for the last more than two years while on the other hand,  the administration is going to purchase two new top model vehicles  for the Vice Chancellor, out of the internal resources of the University notwithstanding severe financial constraints in finishing several half-done JU projects ,” said Dr Vikas Sharma, NSF president, while addressing a press conference, here today.
The Vice Chancellor is already having fleet of three top-end vehicles,  including Ambassador car,  SUVs Scorpio and Innova, he informed  and added that the  University was having 31 vehicles, including 16 in central pool and 15 allocated to officials, Rectors and selective department heads.
“University was  facing severe financial constraints in raising up funds for the development of off-site campuses, construction of infrastructure within campus and other finance related matters but the University administration,  instead of going for austerity measure, has indulged  in brazen misuse of exchequer just to enjoy the luxuries,’ the NSF leader said and also alleged pick and choose policy in allocating vehicles to officials, department heads and Campus Rectors.
Dr Vikas claimed that if an independent probe is held into the transport scam in the university during the last  two years,  many irregularities by the JU administration will surface.
