NRI booked for attempting to grab land

JAMMU, Jan 5: Police today registered a case against a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) presently settled in Britain for attempting to grab the land in the heart of the city at Veer Marg, Residency Road.
As per reports, Amit Kohli, son of Ajit Kohli, resident of Trikuta Nagar and Dr Virender Kumar, son of late Jagdish Raj, resident of 454-A, Gandhi Nagar purchased 8.7 marlas of land at Veer Marg, Ward No. 7, Residency Road from Imrana Khatoon, wife of late S Abas, resident of 11/B Gandhi Nagar on September 7, 2011.
The land was transferred to Amit Kohli and Dr Virender Kumar by Imrana Khatoon in the court of law.
Amit Kohli and Dr Virender Kumar, after completing the formalities of land transfer including registration, started some construction work on the land. A boundary wall was constructed and building material was laid. Besides, a gate was also installed.
The land remained unattended for some time and in the meantime, a NRI namely Ali Asgar Jafri, son of Mushtaq Jafri, resident of Ustad Mohallah, who is presently settled in Britain, tried to grab the land by breaking open the locks on the main gate.
When Amit and Dr Virender came to know about the incident yesterday, they lodged a complaint with Police Post Residency Road. Accordingly, the accused was picked up for questioning by the police this morning.
On getting information about land grabbing, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Atul Goel visited the Police Post Residency Road and enquired about the whole matter. SP North Yougal Manhas, SHO City Police Station Bharat Sharma, Incharge Police Post Residency Road Altaf Ahmed were also present.
SSP directed both the parties for not visiting the site till the matter is resolved.
A case under FIR No 1/14 under Sections 447 and 380 RPC has been registered against the NRI and investigation started.
