NPP to observe Martyrs Day on Oct 17, Accession Day on Oct 27

JAMMU, Oct 11: The J&K National Panthers Party (NPP) has decided to observe Martyrs Day on October 17 and Accession Day of October 27.
In a meeting held here last evening at NPP headquarters, Gandhi Nagar and it was declared that October 17 and 18 shall be observed as Martyr’s Day in memory of four student leaders who were killed in police firing in Jammu on 17 and 18 October 1966.
The three students martyred by the Police during Congress Government in J&K included Brij Mohan Sharma, Subash Chander, Gulshan Handa (on Oct 17) inside GGM Science College Jammu and S. Gurcharan Singh was martyred in Kanak Mandi on October 18, 1966.
The Enquiry Commission constituted on the directions of Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India held Police guilty. The NPSU president Virender Singh shall head the committee of students and organize the memorial meeting on 51st anniversary of the student martyrs. The NPP committee shall also participate in the memorial meeting.
The JKNPP Working Committee and all Party activists shall celebrate Accession Day on October 27 on its 71st anniversary. Maharaja Hari Singh singed instrument of Accession on October 27, 1947 which was accepted by the Governor General, Lord Mountbatten on October 27.
The Committee of 21 members shall be constituted by the Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman and Balwant Singh Mankotia, State president of NPP. The Committee shall Celebrate Accession day on October 27 in Jammu.
