RAJOURI, Feb 16: The entire township of Nowshera today observed complete bandh and people held protest against the denial of the post of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) to this Sub-Division.
The shops and other business establishments remained closed while the students of the local Degree College and Govt Higher Secondary School boycotted classes to mark their protest against the Govt decision to sanction ADC’s post to Kotranka (Kandi), ignoring the largest Sub Division – Nowshera. The movement of vehicles was also stalled by the protesting people,
A large number of people of the area including members of Beopar Mandal assembled at the main market near tehsil office complex at around 10.30 am and started protest. They raised slogans against the Govt and also in support of their demand. They were demanding sanctioning of ADC’s post for Nowshera.
The speakers pointed out that Deputy Com-missioner Rajouri, Shahid Iqbal Chou-dhary had assured them that the issue will be resolved by February 12 and the decision in this connection was likely in next Cabinet meeting during protest at Rajouri about ten days back but today is February 16 and no such decision has been taken by the Government. The Cabinet meeting was also held but there was nothing on Nowshera issue. The people have been befooled by the District Administration, they alleged.
The speakers claimed that now indefinite bandh/ agitation has been launched by the people and it would be taken to logical conclusion. The highway will also be blocked and no education institution will be allowed to function.
