Not only Kashmir, Jammu & Ladakh equally important: Dr Karan Singh

JAMMU, Sept 25: Former Sadar-e-Riasat and veteran Congress leader Dr Karan Singh (MP) today said that all the three regions of the State are equally important and the aspirations of the people from Ladakh and Jammu regions can not be ignored.
Addressing a mammoth Rajput `Samellan’ to mark 122nd birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Dogra ruler of the State at MAM Stadium here today, Dr Singh said that most of the people talk of `Kashmiriyat’ but they must understand that `Dogriyat’ and `Ladakhiyat’ are also equally important. The people from all the regions deserve the equal right and opportunity and they can not be ignored at any front. He said during Maharaja’s rule, all the regions and sections of the society were getting equal opportunity and treatment. All the regions deserve equal treatment and it should be understand by all.
Dr Singh, who was the chief guest at the Rajput Ekta Samellan further said that strengthening of Sabhas and Biradaris is important for the strong regions and if the regions are strong and united, the State ultimately will be strong and prosperous. He said that development of the State is possible when there is peace and unity among various sections of the society/ biradaris. He was referring to unrest in Kashmir and hoped that peace would return soon.
While paying tributes to his father (Late Maharaja), Dr Singh congratulated the member of Rajput community and others on this occasion and said that it becomes the collective responsibility of all the biradaris/ communities to work collectively for making the region and the State strong. If the states are strong, the country will be stronger. He also referred to the reforms brought in the society by Late Maharaja and said that his contributions for his people are outstanding.
Earlier, President of Shri Amar Kashatriya Rajput Sabha, Narayan Singh while paying tributes to Late Maharaja spoke on his qualities and reforms and said that his contributions for the society are immense and outstanding. He also submitted a memorandum to the Govt on behalf of the Biradari, through community Legislators present on the occasion, including Ajatshatru Singh (Maharaja’s grandson) RS Pathania, Rajeev Jasrotia, Devinder Singh Rana and demanded that Gazetted holiday should be declared in the State on the birthday of Late Maharaja Hari Singh which falls on Sept 23.
Rajput Sabha also demanded that statue of first Dogra ruler – Maharaja Gulab Singh be installed at Kunjwani Chowk in Jammu, special recruitment drive for the youth of Kandi belt of Jammu region in Armed/ Para Military forces, rotation of reserved Assembly constituencies in the State and granting of reservation to all the communities on economic basis only and not on caste basis. Several District president of Rajput Sabha units from Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda etc also spoke on the occasion.
Ajatshatru Singh declared that issue of holiday on Sept 23 should be considered as resolved as it will be forcefully taken up with the Government by all the Legislators. On this occasion, about 30 outstanding sportspersons of the Rajput community were also honoured.
President, Akhil Bhartiya Kashatriya Mahasabha president , Harivansh Singh (MP) from Partapgarh in UP was the special invitee to the function. He congratulated to the community members on this occasion and stressed for the broader unity.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included – Devinder Singh Rana (NC MLA), Rajeev Jasrotia BJP MLA from Kathua, RS Pathania BJP MLA from Ramnagar, Maheshwar Singh MLA Kullu (HP), Daljeet Singh vice chairman Kissan Board, former minister Shabir Khan, Ex-MLA Harshdev Singh, Ex-MLA Kanta Andotra (wife of Forest Minister Ch Lal Singh), Retired Judge Pavitar Singh, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Pawan Kotwal and others.
