Northern Army chief reviews security

Srinagar, Aug 9: Northern Army Commander Lt General Ranbir Singh today reviewed security situation in Kashmir with Governor NN Vohra and the top Commanders on the first day of his two day visit to the Valley.
Lt General Singh arrived in Srinagar on a two day visit to the Kashmir valley today to review the security situation after recent successful counter infiltration and counter militancy operations which led to killing of several militants.
He met Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhavan  and they discussed security related issues in the hinterland and along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in the State.
They discussed the steps taken by the security forces to ensure peace in the State and counter infiltration and counter militancy operations in the State.
He also attended the high level Security Review Meeting chaired by the Governor. He interacted with officials from other security agencies and civil administration and discussed the coordination among various security agencies and civil administration. He assured all possible help to the civil administration from the Army.
Accompanied by Chinar Corps Commander Lt General AK Bhatt, the Army Commander visited the several Army formations in South Kashmir where he was briefed by the Commanders on ground about the current situation.
The local Commanders briefed the Northern chief about recent operations that were conducted by the troops in South Kashmir in which several militants were killed. They informed the Commander that troops are maintaining utmost retrain to avoid collateral damage during the anti-militancy operations despite provocations by anti-national elements.
The Army Commander complimented the troops for their recent successes and commended them for their dedication to duty and high standards of professionalism. He appreciated the measures and Standard Operating Procedures instituted by the units and formations to minimise civilian casualties.
The need to be prepared for effectively meeting emerging security challenges was also reinforced. Lauding the excellent synergy amongst all the security forces, he exhorted all ranks to maintain a safe, secure and peaceful environment for the people of Kashmir.
The Army Commander is visiting the Line of Control formations tomorrow and review the counter-infiltration measures put in place along the LoC. It may be mentioned here that despite stringent measures taken by the Army along the LoC, 59 militants managed to infiltrate into Kashmir from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) this year.
