Normalcy returns to Kashmir after 3 days

SRINAGAR, July 22: Life in Kashmir today returned back to normal after three days of curfew and strikes over the firing incident in Ramban district that left four persons dead and 42 injured.
Shops, business establishments and Colleges re-opened after three days. Public transport also plied on all routes of the Valley and markets were full of shoppers.
Authorities imposed curfew in Srinagar and all major towns of Kashmir on Friday, a day after firing at Gool in Ramban district.
While the curfew was lifted yesterday, normal activities remained suspended due to strike called by hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Over 250 persons including scores of security force personnel were injured in clashes between protesters and security forces over the past three days.
However, there was a strong presence of police and paramilitary forces at vulnerable spots across the Valley to maintain law and order.
In South Kashmir district of Kulgam, a group of youth pelted stones at shops and passing vehicles in Qazigund forcing shutdown of shops. Some shops and vehicles were damaged in the stone pelting.
Minor stone pelting was also reported from Beehama, Dudarhama areas of Ganderbal. However, it had no impact on the normal life which resumed in the township after three days.
In the meantime, a police spokesman said here today that police in Anantnag arrested two non-state subjects on charges of stone throwing. The spokesman identified them as Mohammad Afzal, son of Iqbal Hussain of Uttar Pradesh and Mohammad Ibrahim Sheikh, son of Sajid Ali Sheikh of Uttar Pradesh.
