Nomad held with 8 kg poppy straw

RAMBAN, Sept 19: Police today arrested a nomad with 8 kg poppy straw.
According to a police official, today at about 3.30 PM, during routine naka checking at main gate of police station Ramsoo, a truck bearing registration number JK02AE-9975 driven by one namely Roop Lal son of Baru Ram, resident of Hiranagar (Kathua) from Srinagar towards Jammu was stopped for routine checking.
He said that during checking of the truck, police found a Bakerwal family in the truck and on their personal search, a bag with 8 kg poppy straw (bhuki) was recovered from the possession of one of the family members, who was identified as Liyakat Ali son of Suba, resident of Rajinderpur, tehsil Vijaypur, district Samba.
“In this connection, a case FIR No 70/2017 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at police station Ramsoo”, the official said, adding, the arrest and recovery was made by a police team led by SHO, police station Ramsoo, Inspector Suhail Khan, under the supervision of SSP Ramban, Mohan Lal and overall supervision of DIG, Doda-Kishtwar Range, Basant Rath.
