No terror attack, no corruption – two key achievements of Modi Govt: Def. Minister

NEW DELHI, Jan 12: Two major achievements of the Narendra Modi Government during last four-and-half years have been no major terror strike and not a single case of corruption, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said here on Saturday.
“All BJP karyakartas of BJP should highlight two important things….we have not had one major terrorist attack in this country after 2014,” Ms Sitharaman said at the BJP National Convention speaking in support of the political resolution moved by the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
“We should remind our people that this country has lived a peaceful five years,” she said although admitting about the disturbances in the border.
However, she said, Indian army has made sure that ‘every efforts’ made by inimical forces to come to the country are foiled and “eliminated even at the border”.
“This Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured one thing pucca…..that there shall not be any opportunity for the terrorists to disturb peace in the country,” Defence Minister said.
Second issue which is of equal importance and that needs to be highlighted by the BJP workers, she said is “corruption free five years”.
“Absolutely there has been no corruption in this country…..not even whisper of corruption in this country under the leadership of PM Modi,” she said adding, “Therefore, if an ordinary man wants to live in peace and bereft of corruption; that is the life PM Modi has brought in”.
She recounted that one of the early decisions of the Modi government in 2014 after coming to power was to ensure that there would be no necessity for attestation of certificates by gazetted officers.
The Government has focused on ‘Good Governance’ as the Prime Minister specifically gave importance to both small as well big reforms strategies.
“Therefore, we can take pride in our selves to say Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” the Minister underlined.
“We have to have the reforms continue, we cannot lose the momentum,” said Ms Sitharaman.
Defence Minister recalled that during campaign in 2013-14 and even after elections Prime Minister has stated very clearly that – India and Pakistan should not be fighting.
“He had said rather both should fight against poverty….that was the line he (PM Modi) gave to Pakistan. And we in India are strictly following that,” she said.
Ms Sitharaman, who has been lately in news for one-upmanship with Congress leaders and especially Rahul Gandhi over Rafale, lamented that “repeated” reminders that below decorum words should not be used against incumbent Prime Minister have gone unheeded.
“We hope that the Congress party will counsel its President (Mr Gandhi) to conduct himself with a decorum which is becoming of a national party,” the Minister said.
“I think what is important is to go back to every voter and remind them of the great work that is going on,” she said.
The Political Resolution was also adopted by Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. (UNI)
