No school occupied by forces: Govt to HC

Srinagar, Nov 9: Government today informed the State High Court that no education institute in Kashmir is occupied by security forces.
The information has been given to the Court during hearing of a public interest litigation filed by Advocate Shah Faisal seeking direction on security agencies as well as State to get all security forces vacated from all the educational institutions of the Valley.
The State counsel B A Dar (AAG) made the statement before the division bench of Justice Ramalingham Sudhakar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey that there is no educational institute or school occupied by the security forces.
The Assistant Solicitor General of India S A Makroo made representation on behalf of Director General and Inspector General Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Director General and Inspector General Border Security Force (BSF) made joint statement that no school is occupied by their forces.
The petitioner said that these schools be vacated and consequently way be paved to the students to achieve the education which is constitutional right guaranteed in the constitution of the country.
“Direction to the respondents including Commissioner Secretary Education, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Director School Education to make the educational institutions viable by rectifying the damage, if any caused by the occupation of security forces and a comprehensive policy be formulated by which no educational institution shall be occupied or used as temporary shelter by security forces in future”, read the PIL.
Referring to news reports, the petitioner in order to authenticate the news item went on to see the condition of some of to schools and was shocked to see a huge posse of security personnel inside and outside the S P higher secondary school, Government higher secondary school the Rajbagh and DAV school Jawahar Nagar. About the S P higher secondary school the petitioner added that the school was initially occupied by the security forces but has recently been vacated.
Petitioner has also mentioned that more than 10 educational institutions have been occupied by security forces from the post 8th July and the State Government is not bothered about the future of the students enrolled in these institutions.
Other educational institutions, as per the petitioner, which are occupied by the security forces are Government higher secondary school Sonwar, M P higher secondary school Bagh-e-Dilawar Khan Srinagar, Girls higher secondary school Nawa-Kadal and Government higher secondary school Kothi Bagh, Srinagar.
