No progress in Sino-Tibetan dialogue: Sangay

DHARAMSHALA (HP), Jan 18:
‘Prime Minister’ (Kalon Tripa) of Tibetan Government in Exile, Lobsang Sangay, has alleged that the Chinese Government was showing no interest in taking ahead the Sino-Tibetan dialogue for ending the 60-year-long occupation of Tibet by the Communist regime.
Mr Sangay, who was elected as Prime Minister by six-million Tibetan refugees living in more than 30 nations across the globe, said there was no progress at all in the dialogue for last seven years.
In the past, there have been nine rounds of talks between the Tibetan and Chinese authorities.
Talking, at Central Tibetan Administration headquarters in-exile here recently, Mr Sangay said the envoys of the Dalai Lama have not been able to visit Beijing or  have formal dialogue with their Chinese counterparts since January 2010.
Mr Sangay said he has made numerous efforts to carry forward the the Sino-Tibetan dialogue as Prime Minister of the government, but a breakthrough was yet to be achieved.
“Since January 2010,  as envoy of His Holiness I have not been able to visit Beijing or have formal dialogue with the Chinese authorities,” he said.
“I tried to reach out to Chinese counterpart in July 2010 but nothing happened and then in August I met him again in Delhi … but nothing happened,” Mr Sangay said.  (UNI)
