No progress on developmental projects in Jammu: CCI

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 9: The Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry has urged upon the Dy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh to ensure better development in Jammu and ensure basic amenities to the people besides showing good progress on Jammu Master Plan.
The Chamber’s members under the presidentship of Rakesh Gupta held a meeting here today to discuss some burning issues regarding overall development of Jammu region and after serious deliberations an urgent communication was sent to the Dy Chief Minister. They said Chamber had great expectations from the present Coalition Government as far as the power sector, Master Plan and overall development of Jammu is concerned but it is felt that there is no accountability of either any officers or the Minister at the helm of affairs.
They said even after spending thousands of crores through IRCON the power crises and unscheduled power cuts that too in peak summers have made the life of common man miserable as also the traders and the industrialists have to spend more on Gensets and other such gadgets which also lead to polluting the air in Jammu area.
The people of Jammu had excepted some relief through new Master Plan which could come up as per the practical requirements of the present scenario but nothing such happened so far on ground.
It is pertinent to note that these constructions did not come up over night but these works were carried out with the knowledge of the concerned enforcing agencies of the Government. The Chamber had expected that the land use of such areas where huge commercial establishment are operating be changed to commercial which never happened as also the Housing and Jammu Development Authorities miserably failed to come up with any such commercial outlets so that the new entrepreneurs could start their business. There are ample places for providing parking facilities in almost all localities throughout Jammu but we see that only most of the projects sanctioned by the previous Governments are being carried out. Every citizen of Jammu feels anguished over shelving the prestigious artificial lake project on river Tawi, the DPR and funding of which was sanctioned by the Union Ministry.
The Chamber expressed serious concern over the slow pace for creation of AIIMS that was sanctioned long time back and because of this slow pace the health care is suffering badly in Jammu. No progress has been seen on Suchetgarh border project.
The Govt must announce a specific deadline for completion of ongoing developmental projects like artificial lake over river tawi, development of river Tawi front on the pattern of Sabarmati, the restoration works of Mubarak Mandi and the Gandola Project in Jammu and Patnitop.
