No new policy for defence procurement, MoS tells Rajya Sabha

NEW DELHI, Aug 6: The Government on Monday said it was adhering to guidelines of the Ministry of Defence for Penalties in Business dealings with entities promulgated by the Ministry in November, 2016.
No new guidelines had been set in place after that, Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre told the  Rajya Sabha during the Question Hour.
Replying to supplementaries, the Minister said action was taken if guidelines were violated.
The guidelines were meant to ensure transparency, accountability and probity in defence procurements.
The guidelines lay down policy for levy of financial penalties and/or suspension/banning of business dealings with entities, seeking to enter into contract with/having entered into a contract for the procurement of goods and services by the Ministry of Defence, he said.
”The existing cases of suspension/ban against vendors were regularly reviewed in the light of the Government guidelines,” he added. (UNI)
