No funds under Skill Development

JAMMU, Jan 20: No funds have been provided to the J&K State under National Skill Development Mission while 100 youth were trained in skill development and over 1050 skilled youth of the State were provided jobs through mega Job Melas in Srinagar and Jammu recently.
Replying to the question of Congress Member Gargi Billoria in the Upper House today, Minister for Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Imran Raza Ansari said that 1050 skilled youth got jobs in 2 Mega Job Melas organized in Srinagar and Jammu. Ansari said that the Government has constituted State Skill Development Mission headed by the Chief Minister and modalities for registering the Skill Development Societies are being worked out.
The Minister claimed that  no funds have been allocated to the State during the previous two years under National Skill Development Mission (NSDM), however,   separately the department has trained 100 youth in different trades and 510 youth are under training in various ITIs in convergence with other departments/organizations which are not covered under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY).
Ansari said all the activities of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) are being monitored by MSDE. He said action plan for skilling 47302 youth up to 2020 in the State is being formulated in consultation with MSDE.
The Minister further said that apart from Centrally Sponsored Schemes, skill-development trainings in different trades are being imparted to the youth through ITIs. He said Government would also explore the possibility of providing training to the youth through private ITIs.
Ansari said to provide jobs to the skilled youth, two Job Melas were conducted in Srinagar and Jammu in which 1050 skilled youth were provided jobs. He said Government  is also tying up with various national and international companies for providing  employment to the skilled youth of the State.
Legislators G N Monga, Saifuddin Bhat and  Ashok Khajuria raised  supplementary questions. Monga asked why the funds were not provided to the State for skill  development.
