No escape for militants

Recent incidents of attacks by externally sponsored militants in some parts of the valley gradually unfolded the designs of their Pakistani mentor of disrupting election process that is now underway in the country and the State. These attacks coincide with the call for boycott of elections given by the separatists in Kashmir. Despite suggestions from many quarters including their friends to the separatists that they should take part in the election and prove that they have following in Kashmir, the separatists have always shunned fighting election. Not only that, they do not want peace loving population to exercise their vote in electing the representatives of their choice to the State Legislative Assembly or the Parliament. They do not believe in fair elections and democratic dispensation, which does justice to one and all. The entire world has recognized that democracy is the best form of Government in which all shades of opinion including the opposition find space for expressing their views.
In previous elections also, the externally sponsored militants tried to intimidate voters by brandishing gun and issuing blatant threats of life to the people if they come out to cast their vote. But their attempts have never been allowed to succeed nor shall they get any quarter in future. It is a handful of frustrated people who cannot reconcile to people choosing democratic dispensation which teaches tolerance and accommodation of various shades of opinion. As we find, the externally sponsored and supported militants are targeting mainstream political activists as has been the recent case in Pulwama area where the NC activist had a narrow escape when two armed militants, both of Pakistani origin, entered his house with the objective of killing him. In the clash that followed two policemen, his guards were killed but quick retaliation by the SOG and paramilitary force cordoned the assailants and soon finished them up recovering from their possession two AK guns besides one which they had snatched from the slain cop. This incident shows that the conspiracy of disrupting democratic process in the State and the country continues to be hatched from across the border. While action was underway in Pulwama, security forces have eliminated two more militants of JeM, another Pakistani militant outfit, who were hiding in a private house in Ahmad Nagar in Srinagar.
While Pakistan  is showing no relent in its efforts to push trained militants into our side of the LoC with the clear purpose of dislodging law and order and obstructing democratic process in the State, mainstream political parties in the State now engaged in Parliamentary election, are showing commendable resistance to the pressures brought by the militants. They are committed to the democratic process calling for tolerance and accommodation of different views with the sole purpose of taking the state forward in its march along the path of economic development and social change. The Chief Minister while condoling the killing of two cops in Pulwama incident, has rightly stated that mainstream political parties are paying for their ideology. Those who are disrupting the process or subverting it in one way or the other are not the friends of the State or its people. It is after several years  of struggle that the ordinary people of the State have tasted what democracy is and how it accommodates so many shades of opinion without rancor. What we have achieved from a long struggle for self rule is a well entrenched democracy with strong institutions. We shall not be deterred by any threat to this dispensation. Pakistan created Taliban which has boomeranged on her. Same will be the situation with all these militant outfits which her intelligence agencies are creating under one name or the other.
Two days back, the Army Chief also visited the State. The visit was meant to assure the nation that our army will maintain security of the borders at any cost so that civilian administration continues with its normal task. We will not allow militants and their sponsors across the LoC succeed in infiltrating the LoC at will.
