Night temperatures drop

Srinagar, Dec 26: After a day’s relief due to rains and snow in parts of the State, the night temperatures dropped several notches across the State today.
A Meteorological Department official said today that cold and dry weather with foggy conditions in the mornings are expected to continue in the State during the next 24 hours.
The official said after light rain and snowfall, the night temperatures had shown some improvement, but due to clear sky, the minimum temperatures again dropped.
Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 5.1 degree Celsius as the night’s lowest temperature today against minus 2.2 degree Celsius yesterday.
The night’s lowest temperature was minus 6.4 degree Celsius in Pahalgam and minus 4.6 degree Celsius in Gulmarg today.
Qazigund, Kokernag in South Kashmir minus 4.3 degree Celsius  and minus 2.5 degree Celsius  respectively and Kupwara in North Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 5.5 degree Celsius.
The difference was again noticed in Ladakh region where Leh town recorded a minus 13.9 against yesterday’s minus 9.4 and Kargil recorded minus 11.8.
The minimum temperature in Jammu city was 6.1 degree Celsius against Sunday’s 11.9. The minimum temperature in Jammu city was 6.1 degree Celsius against Sunday’s 11.9 degree Celsius. Katra recorded 7.1 degree Celsius, Batote 4.2 degree Celsius, Banihal 5.0 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah zero degree Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.
The day temperatures across Kashmir also dropped today with Srinagar recording maximum day temperature of 11.5 degree Celsius against yesterday’s 11.9 degree Celsius.
Qazigund recorded 13.3 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 9.5 degree Celsius, Kokernag 12.2 degree Celsius,  Kupwara 10.9 degree Celsius, Gulmarg 5.0 degree Celsius, Leh 2.7 degree Celsius and Kargil 6.4 degree Celsius.
Jammu recorded a maximum of 21.3 degree Celsius, Katra 19.5 degree Celsius, Banihal 16 degree Celsius, Batote 14.4 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah 14 degree Celsius.
Dal lake and other water bodies around Srinagar city and elsewhere in the Valley again froze partially today due to drop in temperatures.
The taps and water pipes also froze at several places during the night leading to the water shortage in certain areas in the morning. Frosty mornings and slippery roads cause problems to pedestrians and motorists in Srinagar city and other places.
Due to cold weather conditions people are mostly staying indoors to save themselves from cold wave. The power generation has gone down leading to power crisis in Kashmir.
