NIA gets remand of 5 accused in Naveed Jutt escape case

NEW DELHI, Feb 16: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday got seven days’ remand of five accused in Pakistan terrorist Naveed Jutt’s escape case in Jammu.

The five accused are Shakeel Ahmed Bhat, Tika Khan, Syed Tajamul Islam, Md Shafi Wani and Jan Md Ganai, all residents of Pulwama in the case pertaining to the escape of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist  from SMHS hospital, Srinagar.

On Thursday, the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar had granted two days transit remand  to produce all  accused to special NIA court, Jammu. Complying the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs, NIA took up this case on February 12 and registered a case. The probe agency is mandated to investigate the security lapses during Naveed’s visit to the hospital or any connivance of hospital staffs in his escape.

The NIA has registered case RC No 05/2018 related to the escape of hardcore LeT terrorist from Srinagar where he was brought under police custody on February 6 for treatment. In this incident, the militant fired at the security personnel and two police personnel Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmed and Constable Babar Ahmed were martyred. (UNI)
