NIA arrests Dy Supdt Amphalla Jail, another for luring youth to militancy

Conspiracy hatched inside Srinagar Central Prison

JAMMU, Aug 28: The National Investigating Agency today conducted simultaneous raids and arrested a Deputy Superintendent of District Jail Amphalla Jammu and a militant for hatching conspiracy inside Central Prison, Srinagar to recruit youth into the militancy and send them to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) for arms training to wage war against the country in Jammu and Kashmir.
The two accused arrested today by the NIA during simultaneous raids have been identified as Feroz Ahmad Lone, a resident of Budgam, presently posted as Deputy Jail Superintendent, Amphalla, Jammu and Ishaq Palla, a militant and a resident of Shopian.
An official release issued by the NIA described Feroz Ahmad Lone and Ishaq Palla as main conspirators in Kupwara-Hizbul Mujahideen conspiracy case in which the youth were motivated to join militancy and exfiltrate to PoK for arms training to join armed militancy in the Kashmir valley.
They have been booked in Regular Case No.-07/2018/NIA/DLI registered under Sections 120B RPC and 13,18 & 18 B of UAP Act.
Giving details of the case, the NIA release said it pertained to an attempt by accused persons Suhail Ahmad Bhat and Danish Ghulam Lone, who were arrested earlier, to travel to PoK for arms training for waging war against the State.
Investigations conducted by the NIA revealed that Suhail Ahmad Bhat and Danish Ghulam Lone had been motivated by Ishaq Palla. At the time of incident, Ishaq Palla was lodged in Central prison Srinagar in a different case and he was instrumental in hatching the conspiracy from Jail to motivate youths to join militancy.
In this conspiracy, he was actively assisted by Feroz Ahmad Lone, who was then posted as Deputy Jail Superintendent, Central Jail Srinagar. The conspiracy meeting at the central prison Srinagar was held on October 25, 2017.
Accused persons were in contact with each other through blackberry messenger during whole of October before they were apprehended by the police on October 30, 2017 and their attempt to exfiltrate to PoK for arms training was effectively thwarted. In view of sensitivity of the case and larger angle of conspiracy, the case had been handed over to the National Investigating Agency.
Accused Ishaq Palla has been remanded to 10 days’ NIA custody by the Special NIA court, Jammu, where he was produced today. Other accused Feroz Ahmad Lone will be produced before the Court tomorrow for seeking his custody.
Later, both of them will be subjected to sustained interrogation to unearth the large conspiracy including the angel that the accused might have motivated some more youth to join militancy.
A high-level NIA team was investigating the case.
Sources said cross-examination of the case could lead to some more clues and in view of this, more arrests in the case are not ruled out.
