NHIDCL to prepare feasibility report for Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel

JAMMU, Jan 16: Minister for R&B and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri today informed the Legislative Council that Chenani-Sudh Mahadev-Goha-Khellani-Kishtwar-Sinthan Pass-Khannabal road has been entrusted by Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) for upgradation to 2-lane with paved shoulders.
Replying to a question by Firdous Ahmad Tak in the Upper House today, the Minister informed that NHIDCL is preparing DPR and feasibility study of the said National Highway through a consultant.
The Minister said the Corporation has asked the Consultant to also study feasibility for construction of Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel. He said after receiving the report from the Consultant, NHIDCL would fix the final alignment.
Responding to the supplementary questions by Sajad Ahmad Kichloo, Sham Lal Bhagat and Javid Ahmad Mirchal, the Minister said that the Government is contemplating to take up the construction of Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel under PPP mode after assessing the feasibility and viability of the tunnel.
The Minister further said that for construction of tunnel at Sadhna Pass on Karnah-Kupwara road the BRO has already prepared a proposal. He said the Government is serious to upgrade Batote-Kishtwar road and has taken several steps in this regard. He said providing of better road connectivity especially to the remote areas including Dessa- Kapran is the priority of the Government.
