JAMMU, Jan 27: Traffic on Jammu -Srinagar-National Highway was restored after seven days while over 2000 light and medium vehicles crossed over to Valley by late this evening.
IG Traffic, J&K, Alok Kumar told the Excelsior that one way traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was restored this afternoon after the fresh land slides at Marog besides at Battery Chashma and Anokhi Fall were cleared by the highway authorities. Kumar said the weather was fair today and the shooting stones had also stopped at a few dangerous places between Ramban and Banihal. Click here to watch video
He said at first, all the stranded Light Motor Vehicles were allowed to move towards Kashmir. Since the highway was cleared for one way traffic, today Kashmir bound traffic was allowed at first.
He said about 1200 vehicles crossed Jawahar Tunnel by around 5 pm. The movement of vehicles in small groups of 150-200 was being allowed taking all precautions at problematic areas.
By late evening, over 2000 vehicles crossed over to Valley. He said after this, the stranded Kashmir bound petrol/ diesel tankers will be allowed, followed by trucks to Kashmir.
