Srinagar Jan 10: The night temperature at most places in Kashmir division went down the freezing point with Kargil recording its coldest night of the season at minus 12.4 degrees Celsius.
Leh town was the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir as it registered a low of minus 13.9 degrees Celsius, down by over two degrees from yesterday’s minus 11.4 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg and Pahalgam were the only places in Kashmir division where the mercury marked improvement. Gulmarg. the ski-resort in North Kashmir, recorded the minimum temperature of minus 12.0 degrees Celsius, slightly up from the previous night’s minus 12.4 degrees Celsius. The resort was the coldest place in the Valley.
Pahalgam, in south Kashmir, settled at minus 6.2 degrees Celsius, up three degrees from minus 9.2 degrees Celsius the previous night.
Srinagar recorded a low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, down from the previous night’s minus 2.3 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund settled at a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius. Kokernag recorded a low of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, compared to yesterday’s minus 2.8 degrees Celsius.
The north Kashmir town of Kupwara recorded a low of minus 5.5 degrees Celsius, down nearly two degrees from minus 3.6 degrees Celsius yesterday.
Jammu recorded a minimum of 3.7 degree Celsius, Katra 5.0 degree Celsius, Banihal minus 2.4 degree Celsius, Batote 0.5 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah minus 1.0 degree Celsius.
Srinagar recorded a maximum of 6.2 degree Celsius, Qazigund 3.4 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 2.0 degree Celsius, Kokernag 1.7 degree Celsius, Kupwara 7.0 degree Celsius, Gulmarg minus 0.0 degree Celsius, Leh 0.7 degree Celsius and Kargil 1.8 degree Celsius.
Jammu recorded a maximum of 15.7 degree Celsius, Katra 13.6 degree Celsius, Banihal 6.0 degree Celsius, Batote 7.5 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah 6.0 degree Celsius.
And keeping in view the condition of the road especially between Udhampur – Ramsoo stretch, the Traffic Police is allowing one way movement of traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow.
“Movement of HMVs including oil tankers and convoys of Army shall be allowed from Nagrota, Jammu from 5 a.m. up to 10 a.m. and at Udhampur up to 1230 p.m. Similarly movement of all types of LMVs/passenger vehicles shall be allowed from Nagrota, Jammu from 530 a.m. up to 11 a.m. and at Udhampur up to 2 p.m. No movement of vehicles including that of convoys of Army, BSF, CRPF shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu side on 11.01.2017 under any circumstances”, said Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic, Fayaz Ahmad Lone.
He said that strict implementation of the recommendations of the cut off timing shall be ensured for hassle free movement of traffic on National Highway. “Strong are established at appropriate places for implementation of the directions in letter and spirit. Close co-ordination needs to be made with District Police for better results on ground”, he added.
Meanwhile, Jammu witnessed another coldest night of the season with minimum temperature recorded at 3.7 degree Celsius, a weatherman here today said.
“The intervening night of January 9 and 10 recorded the coldest in this winter capital of the state,” he said. He added the maximum temperature was recorded 15.7 degrees, while the minimum temperature was 3.7 degrees. The minimum temperature yesterday was 4.5 degrees.
The weatherman asserted that tomorrow, sky will be mainly clear, while the maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 18 degrees and 3 degrees in Jammu.
