RAMBAN, Sept 27: The Jammu -Srinagar National Highway was blocked due to massive land slides between Ramban and Banihal this afternoon.
Official sources said that land slides hit the highway at around 3 pm at Maroog, about 7 kms ahead of Ramban. With this, the vehicular traffic came to halt on the busy highway. Hundreds of passengers and other vehicles have been stranded on both sides of the highway.
The sources said that at Maroog, the work of four laning of the highway is going on. Suddenly, massive land slide occurred there despite the fact that weather was clear today. It said that the National Highway authorities pressed three machines on the job to clear the highway, but the road could not be cleared up to 9 pm when the last reports came in this office.
A police official said that frequent shooting stones had created problem for the men engaged at work. The highway is expected to be cleared tonight and stranded passenger vehicles will be allowed to move at first, he added.
