NFSA landmark legislation of UPA Govt: Mir

DARHAL (Rajouri), Dec 20: Pradesh Congress Committee president and former minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir has said that the implementation of the Food Security Act should not deprive any individual or genuine family of the existing quota of ration being availed by them as the people of the State cannot afford with in view of the sufferings undergone by them during two and half decades of turmoil in the State.
Addressing a largely attended gathering at Darhal of Rajouri district today PCC chief said that the National Food Security Act (NFSA) was a land mark legislation of the Congress led UPA Government at the Center, but the Congress-NC Coalition Government in the State did not go ahead for its immediate implementation without sorting out the shortfall, as there was apprehension that a large section of people would be deprived of the existing scale of ration in the State. The then Government took up the issue with the Central Government to sort out the shortfall and shortcomings so that the people do not suffer on this count.
He regretted that the PDP-BJP Government has failed to sort out the shortfalls in this regard and is rushing for false claims whereas, it has failed to provide sugar and ration to the people even as per the existing scale since they came to power.
Mr Mir exhorted the people to defeat the communal and divisive forces who are posing threat to the secular fabric and the unity and integrity of the State and the country. He said that secularism and unity in diversity is the basic strength of our nation and Congress would not allow this to be weakened. He reminded the people that State had rejected the two nation theory and the acceded to secular country-India and that is why Mahatma Gandhi had seen a ray of hope in the State. He said that Congress stands guarantee to maintain religious brotherhood in order to strengthen the unity and integrity of the country. He said that both PDP and BJP played regional and emotional cards to hoodwink the people for winning elections and later betrayed them for the sake of power.
He appreciated the people and workers of Darhal constituency and lauded the leadership of Iqbal Malik for strengthening the roots of Congress in the area and assured the workers that the Congress would not leave any stone unturned to highlight the failures and political vendetta of State and the Central Government.
Senior vice president of PCC Sham Lal Sharma said that BJP-PDP has been exposed in the State because of their opportunistic alliance and wrong policies and failed to deliver to respect the mandate of the people. He said the Congress party is emerging as the only choice of people of the State and country. He urged the people to strengthen the Congress in order to defeat the forces of hatred in order to preserve the secular ethos of our pluralistic society.
Former ministers Mula Ram & Shabir Khan, Ravinder Sharma-Ex-MLC, Sain Rashid-DCC president and local leader Iqbal Malik also addressed the gathering.
