JAMMU, Feb 4: Hundreds of newly recruited non-gazetted employees today staged a protest here in front of Press Club, demanding revocation of SRO 202.
The employees were protesting against new recruitment policy commonly known as ‘SRO 202’. They said on one hand, Government took a decision to regularize 60,000 daily wagers, who have been victims of apathy of successive Governments and on the other hand, it has turned the non-gazetted employees recruited through proper channel (JKSSRB) in its own tenure into daily wagers by making them to work at a meager salary of Rs 7000-8000 per month.
“Government has failed to safeguard the interests of highly educated youth”, they said, adding, when legislators could not survive with a salary of Rs 80,000 and hiked it to Rs 1.6 lakh, how can they survive with a meager salary of Rs 7000 when their parents have invested lakhs on their education. “SRO 202 has abated the morale of the youth as the Government is making even meritorious candidates employed through proper channel and work for peanuts”, they further added.
The protesting employees said that Government has fixed Rs 400 per day as wage for a skilled labour and the said norm is being flouted openly by the Government itself, who is paying Rs 233 per day of wage to newly recruited employees.
They alleged that their counterparts appointed before 30-06-2015 through the same channel are drawing full salaries while they are being paid a meager sum of Rs 7000-8000 for the same work and hence the Government is violating the ‘equal work equal wages’ norm set by the Supreme Court. “Our only mistake is that we were appointed after 30-06-2015”, they added.
The employees called for immediate revocation of SRO 202 so that the future of youth could be safeguarded.
