New Mayor has many novel ideas for development of Jammu city

JAMMU, Nov 15: Envisioning a clean and green Jammu, the newly elected Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Chander Mohan Gupta has many novel ideas for development of Jammu City to restore its pristine glory and grandeur.
The two-time elected Corporator from Ward No 33 of Jammu West Assembly Segment, an RSS ideologue and BJP treasurer, Gupta is a soft spokesman and a hard working politician who has struggled since his childhood after losing his parents both father and mother in a single year. But taking life as a challenge, he did not look back and struggled not only for his own sustenance but for taking his brothers and sisters along.
He while talking to Excelsior said it was the result of this hard work that he was elected to the coveted post of Jammu Mayor today.
Gupta said that he will give practical shape to his dream and will focus on plantation drive especially on dividers on roads and other barren land for beautification of the city and make it clean and green.
“My focus will not only be limited to clean and green Jammu but the overall development of the city and take every possible step to make Jammu Smart City Project a reality. He said soon after taking over as Mayor my priority will be to review the old pending projects like Tawi river Front and Gandola Project, Solid Waste Management Project, Jammu Ring road , Jewel to Canal Fly Over, BC Road to Ambphalla Fly Over and Satwari Chowk to Digina Fly Over for impediment free flow of traffic in the city.”
According top priority to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s Mission of Swatch Bharat and for proper solid waste management in the city, Gupta said a new Sewerage Project will be taken up at Bawe and all shortcomings will be over come faced in proper disposal of solid waste in the city.
To over come the challenge of Dengue, malaria and other epidemics, the newly elected Mayor said that he will take all steps for purchase of fogging machines for every ward of JMC for spraying etc and all the dairy forms will be taken outside from city as the dairy forms are the main problem for polluting the environment in the City.
Besides for total beautification of the city, Gupta said his another focus will be installation of street lights every where in the City so that there will be no difference between day and night. “I will seek full cooperation of all 75 corporators in development and beautification of the city and there will be no discrimination and disparity with any corporator but all whether from Opposition or BJP will be treated alike”, he added.
“Besides, I will make all efforts of improving basic infrastructure in the newly included wards and areas in JMC so that they will not lag behind other wards in development”, he added.
Admitting that the increasing encroachments are a main problem and cause of traffic congestion on city roads, he said all efforts will be made by him to remove the same not by force but with the active cooperation of business community in the city and people. “I will hold meetings with business community members and people to seek their full cooperation to remove the encroachments from the city to decongest it”, he added.
Moreover every effort will be made to overcome the shortage of staff in JMC especially the engineers as well as Safai Karamcharis which is a major problem being faced by JMC at present. “In this regard the reappointment of the retired persons will also be my focus”, he added.
Besides the separate Rehari zones will be established in the city to remove all the reharis from the road sides for hassle free plying of the traffic, he said.
One of the novel ideas which the new Mayor wants to introduce in Jammu city is that he will adopt the Gujarat model for granting the building permissions especially in Old City which is congested.
Priority will be also given to speed up the construction work on parking slots at Bus Stand and Shalamar besides construction of other parking slots in Old City near Lala Hansraj Park and plying of battery cars at Rs 5 from Hansraj Park to Raghunath Bazar and Kanak Mandi area and back. A project in this regard on pattern of Leh has already been framed and it will now be given practical shape.
