NEW DELHI, Jan 18: After taking over as new Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), eminent Space scientist,  Dr K Sivan today made a formal courtesy call to Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed with him some of the immediate upcoming future space missions as well as the important focus areas for future including a possible Human/ Man space mission by India.
Pertinent to mention that Dr  K Sivan, an eminent space scientist, has taken over as Chairman ISRO and Secretary Department of Space, Government of India, after the superannuation of A S Kiran Kumar .
Dr Jitendra Singh complimented the new Chairman for taking over the reigns of ISRO at a time when the Team ISRO, through its commendable work, has placed India as a frontline nation in the community of world nations. With a series of achievements registered in last few years, he said, it is time to consolidate the gains of recent achievements and to share them for the benefit of the people of the region and the entire world community in general.
Dr Sivan made a strong plea for deliberating over possibility and approval for undertaking India’s first Human/Man mission into the space. He also updated the Minister about the progress on the development of low-cost satellite launcher.
Among the immediate forthcoming Space missions in near future, Chairman ISRO discussed with the Minister the ambitious Chandrayaan-2 mission to the moon around the month of April or May this year, which will also include soft landing on the surface of the moon, accompanied by Rover Based in-situ experiments. The other important mission with long term benefits and implications will be GSLV MK-III D2 mission which is also being planned around the same time as Chandrayaan-2.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, one of the major achievements during the Modi Government was that the Space technology had been made applicable to a wide range of infrastructural development and flagship programmes including roads, railways, agriculture health care etc. One of the latest applications, he said, would be the development of Lithium batteries for use of Electric vehicles. These batteries will not only be cost – effective but will also offer the option of Electric vehicle transport with no risk of environmental pollution or noise pollution.
