New device becoming boon for endocsopic treatment

COIMBATORE, May 29:  A new device, recently acquired by a city hospital has come as a boon to the liver and gastro-pancrease patients, and helping endoscopic procedure.
Spyglass DS, from the stable of US-based Boston Scientific, is offering quality view of bile ducts of liver and duct of pancreas thus benefitting all section of society.
According to V G Mohanprasad, Chairman of VGM Hospital, Spyglass DS was used to diagnose and treat chronic and acute diseases like cancer and non-cancer diseases.
Even a minor problem like stomach ache can sometimes be an indication of something much more serious such as gall bladder stones, strictures or even cancer, Mohanprasad said.
“Now it is recommended that people above 40 years should get an endoscopy done to identify real cause of their gastrointestinal problems,” Mohanprasad told PTI.
The SpyGlass DS System, enables physicians to look inside the bile ducts and detect problems and these devices have made treatment for bile stones very easy and efficient, he claimed.
Claiming that this new technology has simplified complex endoscopic procedures, he said that the SpyGlassS System is overcoming limitations in the earlier endoscopic equipment.
This can be used to smash large stones formed in the ducts and also remove migrated stents, besides taking targeted biopsy, which make treatment easier, he said.
The hospital has acquired the Rs 35 lakh system, with Digital Led, just two month ago and already treated 14 patients, including a 69 year old cancer patient, he said, adding that comparatively, this treatment was little bit costly, but was affordable to the middle income groups. (PTI)
