New admn units to accelerate development: Sagar

SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Maintaining that the new administrative units would be made functional very soon, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Ali Mohammad Sagar said that these would go a long way in accelerating the development of the State.
The Minister was speaking at a review meeting convened to discuss the arrangements made for the newly created administrative units in the State.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, Secretary GAD, Ashraf Bukhari, Secretary Rural Development, Shafaat Noor Barlas and other senior officers.
The meeting was told that all the necessary exercises have been done for making these administrative units fully functional and in this regard the requisite staff for manning these has also been identified. It was also given out that necessary provision for the infrastructural needs of these units has also been worked out.
Mr. Sagar said that these units would further accelerate the developmental initiatives undertaken by the Government for the holistic and sustained development of the State. He said the Government is committed for ensuring that they are made fully functional within the shortest possible time.
Later, the Minister conducted an extensive tour of the Srinagar city. He was accompanied by VC, Waqaf Board, M. Y Qadri, Chief Engineers of R&B, UEED, and other senior officers of different departments like floriculture, SMC, PHE, PDD, etc.
The Minister directed the officers to undertake the beautification of the historic Malkah graveyard and develop it on modern lines as it forms part of our historical legacy. He asked the Floriculture Department to make a comprehensive proposal for the overall and sustained development of this historical area.
The Minister also visited Bhagiroop Singh and its catchment areas and directed the officers of LAWDA to speed up the pace of work on the various culverts being constructed to connect the different areas with the main land.
Mr. Sagar also asked the officers of the R&B Department to speed up the pace of work on the Syed Mirak Shah road. He said that the road project would go a long way in regulating the movement of traffic in the old city and the endeavour should be to ensure its early completion. He also directed settling the compensation cases of the persons whose property has been acquired, so that they do not face any inconvenience.
The Minister also directed the officers of UEED to ensure that the drainage system of the city functions properly and the necessary steps are taken to augment the same.
