NCC Jammu drubs RCC Srinagar to enter semis in Chief Minister’s Cricket Cup

JAMMU, Mar 18: National Cricket Club (NCC) Jammu defeated Rainawari Cricket Club (RCC) Srinagar by 6 wickets to seal berth in the semifinals of the ongoing 1st State Level 50-Over Cricket Tournament for Chief Minister’s Cup, being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council in collaboration with Country Cricket Academy at Gharota, near here.
The Tournament is being organised in the memory of Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, former Chief Minister, under the supervision of Vikrant Sharma, Director Country Cricket Academy.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, RCC scored a decent total of 190 runs on a wicket that was helping the bowlers. However, the team could have set a bigger total had the lower-order batsmen shown application and grit. Vimarsh Kaw was the top scorer with 49 runs, while Bandeep Singh, Nitin Manhas, Nipun Verma and skipper Puneet Wattal contributed valuable 33, 30, 24 and 22 runs respectively. Irshad remained unbeaten on seven. Left-arm spinner Vijay Dogra, who had two consecutive 5-wicket hauls earlier in the tournament, again emerged the pick of the bowlers, scalping 4 important wickets, while medium pacer Tanmay Salathia and leg-spinner Deepak Singh Manhas bagged 3 wickets each.
In reply, courtesy fielding lapses by RCC players, NCC chased the target in 32.4 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 6 wickets. The Dogra duo Manish and Vijay scored magnificent 68 and 58 runs to the total respectively. Abdul Samad chipped in with 14 runs, while Amrit Pal Singh and Aditya Partap Singh remained not out on 19 and 10 runs respectively. For RCC Srinagar, Rompy Sharma took 2 wickets, while Dilbag Singh and Vimarsh Kaw claimed one wicket each. For his all-round show, Vijay Dogra was declared as the man of the match.
The match was officiated by Dayal Singh and Madan as umpires, while Lakshya Khajuria was the scorer.
The match among others was witnessed by prominent cricket coaches and players including cricket coach, Randhir Singh and former Ranji Trophy players namely Sandeep Singh (Sunny), Sanjay Sharma, Kavaljeet Singh, Vivek Sharma (organising secretary), Inderjeet Singh,besides senior cricketer Shahid Ahmed.
