NCC celebrates 66th Raising Day

JAMMU, Nov 22: National Cadet Corps (NCC), the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world, raised in 1948, celebrated its 66th Raising Day with traditional fervour.
NCC celebrated its 66th anniversary with traditional fervour. At headquarters level, the Raising Day function was marked by paying homage at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate to the martyrs of the Indian Defence forces who made the supreme sacrifice. Wreaths were laid on behalf of 17 Directorate of the NCC, Cadets, Associated NCC Officers and the three services. Lt Gen Aniruddha Chakravarty, Director General NCC and selected cadets laid wreath on behalf of the entire NCC fraternity today.
66th NCC Day was celebrated at Government Higher Secondary School Pouni. In this connection a function was organized by the NCC cadets of GHSS Pouni. Associate NCC Officer Sunil of 2 J&K Battalion (boys) said that the aim of the NCC is to develop qualities of good citizens, leadership, community development, patriotism and character building among the youth of the nation. While speaking Principal Bansi Lal Magotra gave the detailed description of the NCC.
NCC cadets of 1st J&K Girls Battalion, 1st J&K Naval Unit and 2nd J&K Girls Battalion celebrated NCC day at GCW Gandhi Nagar. A week long programme was organized under the guidance of Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College and under the Supervision of Lt Babita Jamwal, Lt Shivani Sharma, Prof Poonam and Dr Revika Arora. Col Ritu Sood outgoing Commanding Officer of 1st J&K Girls Battalion was the chief guest whereas Principal Dr Kiran Bakshi was the guest of honour. During week long programme various activities were under taken such as sanitation drive, pledge on female foeticide and communal harmony. On the culminating day NCC cadets of college along with ANO’s of 1st and 2nd Girls Battalion, 1st Naval unit and Adm Officer of 2nd J&K Girls Battalion Capt Geeta visited Rotary Inner Wheel Mentally Retarded Home for Children and gifted sports items and provided refreshment to the children of the home.
