RAJOURI, Feb 21: The activists of J&K National Conference  (NC), supported by locals of  the area today held strong protest demonstration against the Rural Development Department and blocked Rajouri-Budhal road for about two hours.
A large number of National Conference workers and villagers of Kotranka sub division led by Block NC president, Mohd Ayub  assembled at main Market in Kotranka town at around 11 AM and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against State Govt, Rural Development Department  and local Block Development Officer.
The workers raised barricades on the road and blocked Rajouri-Budhal road for about two hours. They alleged that a large number of labourers of area have not been paid their wages under MGNREGA works in the area for the last 2-3 years and poor and helpless workers were taking rounds of the BDO office where staff  sends them back on various pretexts.  While the RDD Minister claimed recently in Assembly that no MGNREGA payments are pending in any district but the ground reality is that payments worth lakhs have not been paid  to the poor workers in Kotranka  and Budhal area of Rajouri. The NC leader demanded a high level inquiry into the matter and apprehended that MGNREGA funds have been withdrawn fraudulently by the BDO office staff at Kotranka.
They also protested strongly against the pick and choose policy adopted by BDO on behest of PDP leaders while redrawing boundaries of  Panchayat Halqas in the area as a part of proposed Panchayat elections.  They alleged that NC and Congress people were not consulted on the issue.
Later, SDM, Tehsildar and SHO Kotranka intervened and on their assurance, the people lifted dharna and allowed the movement of the vehicles on this road.
