NC rule of last three decades was through backdoor: Dr Jitendra

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Nov 19: Ridiculing the oft repeated statements of National Conference (NC) leaders that party wants to prevent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from backdoor entry and hence they will not boycott Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the State, Union Minister in PMO with independent charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that NC rule of last three decades was “through backdoor entry” as the party monopolized the democratic scene in the State over these years.
Talking to media persons here today, Dr Jitendra Singh asked the NC leaders to have an introspection instead of making allegations against BJP and go through their past record.
He said the grass root democracy has been strengthened in the country after Narendra Modi took over the reigns in 2014 and spell a doom for dynastic parties. He said the people of Kashmir in the recent Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections have not only voted for strengthening of grass root democracy but also dynastic free democracy.
He said in future such a political combination is evolving in the State in which the dynastic parties will have no role to play and common masses will be at the helm of affairs and power will vest in their hands.
He said the NC and other parties who claim to stop the entry of BJP are challenging the democratic credentials of India, the authority Election Commission of India and mandate of the people.
Lambasting the NC leaders for taking U turn on Article 35 A, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the party which boycotted the ULB and Panchayat polls by taking a stand on Article 35 A took a U turn suddenly and said that they want to stop BJP from abrogating Article 35 A.
This is totally a contradictory statement. Earlier they said that they are boycotting the ULB and Panchayat elections to protect the 35A and now they say that they will take part in Assembly poll regardless whether 35A is settled or not.
Dr Jitendra Singh asked how long the NC leadership will befool Kashmiris by such statements. The party which earlier befooled the people that it was fighting for autonomy just to remain in power is now saying that it is fighting the elections for autonomy but on the other hand it was not ready to grant autonomy to grass root democratic institutions in the State.
Criticizing the NC, the Union Minister said that the most notorious U turn was taken by the then NC president and former Chief Minister, Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah after 35 years in 1975 when he humbly accepted the Chief Ministership of the State.
Dr Jitendra Singh, while taking a dig at NC leadership for their statement that they have asked the State Governor not to take any decision on 35 A, said this is totally childish when the matter is in Supreme Court. This way they are again trying to befool the people of Kashmir, he added.
He said the general referendum in Kashmir is against the so called ‘Azadi’ and separatism and it is for total integration and unity of the State and nation as over 60 percent people came out to vote in the State during ULB elections. The virtues of democracy have eroded over the years of dynastic rule in the State, he added.
While commenting on the recent killings of people by terrorists in the Valley, Dr Jitendra Singh said this is the beginning of end of the militancy in the Valley as they are now on the run and are doing such acts in desperation.
He not only took a dig at separatists but also on the mainstream Kashmir centric parties who too speak in apologetic terms by talking about the aspirations of the people etc when the militants strike any where and kill the innocent people or jawans of security forces.
Regarding yesterday’s terrorist attack in Amritsar, Punjab in which hand of Kashmiri terrorists has not been ruled out, the Union Minister said that the terrorists are on the run from Kashmir and they try to regroup in other parts of State or country while referring to recent killing of senior BJP leader and his brother in Kishtwar.
However, Dr Jitendra Singh made it clear that militancy is being combated forcefully by the Modi Government and the present battle launched against the terror is going to be the last one as the terrorists are now on run.
Dr Jitendra Singh, while commenting on victory in Udhampur and in other Municipal Committee by the party said that every one was eying the Udhmpur MC and people rejected divisive politics there by voting for BJP.
He said BJP is controlling Jammu Municipal Corporation while Mayor of Srinagar MC was also elected by its support. “Besides, we have controlled Kathua and Udhampur Municipal Councils also”, he added.
