KATHUA, Jan 21: People of three distinct geographical regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh can never forget the role of National Conference (NC) played in all round development and progress of the State over last seven decades.
This was stated by Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, additional general secretary of National Conference, while addressing well attended public meetings at Kathua town and Boond Village of Nagri tehsil.
He said that the basic principle of power of the people, by the people and for the people was practically put in place by National Conference by providing parliamentary democracy in 1947 -48 with the State’s own Constitution and Flag and obtaining safeguards from the Indian Parliament in the form of Article 370 and Article 35-A.
“The NC also abolished the Land-Lordism and gave land to the tiller free of cost after a painful 100 years long period from 1846 under the infamous treaty of Amritsar between the British East India Company and Maharaja Gulab Singh. The party also ensured vital sectors like Health, Education, Judiciary, Agriculture, Horticulture, Tourism and Transport are put in place as also development of infrastructure like roads, irrigation, electricity and drinking water,” Dr Kamaal said, adding it is because of these measures J&K has become a model welfare State which is the envy of other states of India.
Dr Kamaal also cautioned the people that the battle of ballot is between forces that are creating all round hatred between regions on basis of religion, language, colour or creed. To defeat these forces, he appealed the people to unite and make these forces ‘eat dust’ in 2019 elections failing which India will fall apart.
