JAMMU, Jan 3: National Conference (NC) Mahila Wing held a protest to project their demands.
Large number of widows under the banner of NC Mahila Wing assembled in the premises of Social Welfare Department (SWD) and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
While speaking, Ex-MLA Bimla Luthra said that the department is not doing justice with the widows and creating problems and hardships for them.
The Department is not releasing the pensions to the widows, due to which they are unable to bear their daily expenses on the food and other items, Luthra said, adding that the department in the past was providing stitching machines to widows, so that they can earn money to run their houses, but unfortunately, the department has also stopped that.
She said that Rs 10,000 was being provided to the lady on the demise of her husband, which the department also stopped and the cutting and tailoring centres being run by the department are also not working, which has added vows among the widows.
She warned to take out a march towards Governor House if the Department failed to address the genuine demands of the widows at the earliest.
Among others present were Dharamvir Jamwal, District President, NC, Bhupinder Kour, Ayub Malik, Bharti, Veena, Jyoti, Radha, Sarpanch Nirmal, Sarpanch Raj, Sarpanch Kamlesh, etc.
