JAMMU, Mar 2: Move to oppose the extension of Constitutional amendments in the State of Jammu & Kashmir by parties like NC, Congress etc. is totally politically motivated with a dubious objective of depriving common masses of their due rights. This was stated by BJP State chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi, while addressing media persons at party headquarter, here at Trikuta Nagar today,.
Sunil Sethi said that these amendments were extended to the State with motive to give benefits to the common masses across all the sections of society. He said that much awaited decisions to provide benefit to the SCs, STs, Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) and the residents of International Border (IB) which were pending for decades have been taken in the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Hailing the decision, Sethi termed it as addressing the issue of “reservation in promotions” pending since 1991 and now the decision in this regard has been extended to the J&K State on the initiative of Modi Government. Historical decision to provide 10% reservation to EWSs (having lesser income than 8 lakh annually) to those who didn’t fall in any category has been taken by Modi Government, which is another landmark step to provide reservation and relief to the residents of IB on the pattern of LoC dwellers. Due to Article 370 this was not applicable in the State, but now due to the decision of Union Cabinet, these decisions will be able to provide relief to residents of J&K as well, he added.
Sethi, said that this is a decision to give relief and benefit to the deprived sections and these parties have absolutely no right to oppose it. This was a decision, which should be welcomed by all. NC and Congress have said that they will challenge the decision in the Court. They must clear their intensions, as it seems that they don’t want to see upliftment of deprived sections. Earlier these parties ruled the State which had many areas represented by reserved sections, but they didn’t do anything for their welfare and now they are hindering the process of their development.
Sethi said this decision is for the benefit of people across the State. This will benefit the people pertaining to all the classes. Few days back, NC announced the name of a person from reserved category to contest the election for gaining their support and now the party is opposing the bill, he added.
This is politically motivated and they must shun this attitude, Sethi said and added that the BJP’s motive is to facilitate the progress, development and prosperity and it should appreciate every step that is necessary for the welfare of the people.
