JAMMU, Jan 31: Several MLAs of National Conference and Congress today staged walkout in protest against denial of opportunity to a senior member of the Legislative Assembly to raise supplementary question.
As soon as Minister for Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports Imran Raza Ansari completed reply to the question of PDP MLA Abid Hussain Ansari regarding indoor stadiums, National Conference MLA Mian Altaf Ahmad stood up to raise the supplementary question. However, he was not allowed by the Speaker Kavinder Gupta on the ground that it was not feasible to allow every member to raise supplementary questions on every question.
Enraged over this, Mian Altaf Ahmed left his seat and moved near the podium of the Speaker to lodge strong protest. He even entered into argument with the Speaker.
Several National Conference MLAs stood up in support of Mian Altaf and demanded that Speaker should allow Opposition MLAs to raise supplementary questions. “Mian Altaf is a senior member of this House and should not be denied opportunity to project his issue”, they further demanded.
“I have failed to understand as to what are the reasons behind denial of opportunity to opposition MLAs to raise supplementary questions”, Mian Altaf said while staging walkout. He was followed by several MLAs of National Conference led by former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Congress MLAs led by Nawang Rigzin Jora.
