GUWAHATI, Nov 30: Featuring the acting prowess of Vikrant Sharma who received this year’s Sangeet Natak Akademi’s prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in theatre acting, Natrang presented a highly innovative multilingual play “And The Journey Goes On” conceived and designed by Sumeet Sharma who is also a recipient of the same award in theatre direction at Rang Bhawan, Maligaon Guwahati.
Both the awardees proved their competence which was visible from the rave remarks of the Assamese audience.
“And The Journey Goes On” very symbolically depicts the paradigm that the experience in theatre in terms of years and months is probably termed as ‘Journey’ by almost everyone.
The same description is explored in both its literal and complex forms. With no assurance of reaching to the destination as the destination itself is not definite, the journey is enjoyed at every step alongwith the surprises it brings.
Every character an actor plays, leaves an imprint on his mind, at times it is like fragrance, which fades away with the passage of time. But sometimes it is like solid engraving which lasts forever. ‘How’ and ‘Why’ aspect of this progression is not in the realm of the conscious mind of an actor, it comes under the domain of the sub-conscious and unconscious mind which matters the most as it works like the undercurrent.
In the play “And The Journey Goes On…” a few of such lasting imprints have been assorted with the ancillary adhesive of the actor’s own repository in the form of songs, poetry, body movements and allied means of expression.
Besides presenting the journey of an actor from character to character, play to play, time to time with varied approaches and myriad emotions, the play very artfully featured the essence of different plays of different genres through the select acts with or without any correlation.
Vikrant Sharma proved his mettle by performing all the characters with professional fluidity. The play was supplemented by the versatility of Anil Tickoo who enhanced the impact of every scene with his presence.
Natrang actors Rahul Singh, Mohd. Yaseen, Vrinda Sharma and Meenakshi Bhagat put their best efforts to put life into the play. The sound and sets were designed by Sumeet Sharma, Lights were operated by Gagan Mishra, music was rendered by Anil Tickoo, Deboshish Bhattacharya was on rhythm.
