GULMARG, Mar 26: National Winter Biathlon Championship 2019 was conducted under the aegis of Biathlon Association of India, organised by HAWS, Gulmarg and IIS&M here.
Earlier, the Championship was declared open by Maj General Atul Koshik SM, VSM Comdt. HAWS as the chief guest, while Shabir-ul-Hassan SDM Gulmarg was the guest of honour.
Nine teams from various States/Units participated in the Championship. Army, HAWS J&K, Red & Blue, ITBP, Red & Blue, JIM, IIS&M, two women teams from ITBP and J&K participated in the event.
Various events held during the competitions were 5km-sprint women, 10km-men, 12.5 km-men and 15km-men.
About 60 Biathletes participated in the various events.
Because of being most adventurous and dangerous sport, all the responsibility of providing security cover for the whole event was under the Control of HAWS – Army including the providing of Guns and Ammunition for the Championship.
M. Ashraf Dijoo, General Secretary /Coach of Biathlon Association of J&K said that J&K team men and women is facing lot of problems regarding the non availability of the equipment (Nordic Skiis) and Ski racing suits used for the Competition.
He extended thanks to Principal IIS&M for providing the requisite facilities for J&K and JIM teams well in time.
