National Sports Day, International Youth Day celebrated

JAMMU, Aug 29: National Sports Day and International Youth Day were celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal.
Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu celebrated the National Sports Day. Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest of the function whereas Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar, University of Jammu was the guest of honour.
Dr Ashutosh Sharma, Dushyant Sharma General Secretary and President JKOA, Sahil Sharma and Rashid Choudhary were the special guests on the occasion, who also shared their experiences while addressing the gathering. The wrestling bouts were also organized to celebrate the prestigious day of Sports in India.
Prof Manoj K Dhar awarded mementos to the special guests, wrestlers whose bouts were organized and eight fencers of the Jammu University Fencing Academy, who have been selected to represent the J&K State Fencing Team in the 20th Sub Junior National and 15th Cadet Championship to be held at Cuttak, Orissa from September 12 to 16.
Earlier, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports and Physical Education, Jammu University presented the welcome address, while Dr Komal Nagar, Incharge Assistant Director, Sports and Physical Education conducted the proceeding and also presented vote of thanks.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board organized 2-day basketball, fencing and shooting tournaments to celebrate National Sports Day. 13 teams of basketball, 45 fencers and 10 shooters drawn from various sports clubs and educational institutions from Katra, Garhi and Reasi besides campers of the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex participated in these tournaments. Anshul Garg, Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave away prizes to the winners and runners up teams of basketball as well as the fencers and shooters who were adjudged best in the tournament. Earlier, Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB presented the welcome address.
J&K State Sports Council and Sports Authority of India jointly celebrated the National Sports Day at KK Hakku Stadium. On the occasion, the contribution made by Major Dhayan Chand, a hockey magician was remembered by GS Bakshi, General Secretary J&K Hockey Association, VK Sharma, Incharge STC Jammu, Rajeev Kumar Dogra, Volleyball Coach, Dev Raj, Handball Coach, Aman Sharma, Basketball Coach, Suresh Kumar Sharma, TT Coach, Gurmeet Kour, Hockey Coach, Ashok Singh, Manager KK Hakku/MA Stadium, SP Singh, Manager Mini Stadium Parade, Satish Gupta, Manager Indoor Stadium, Inderpal Singh, Weight lifting Coach and many others.
National Sports Day at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex Srinagar was organized by J&K State Sports Council. The function was conducted under the chairmanship of Dr Naseem Javaid Chowdhury Secretary J&K State Sports Council in which large number of players participated in various disciplines. The certificates and medals were also distributed among the participant. Yasir Arfat CAO, Haji Abdul Qayoom CSO, Nuzhat Ara Divisional Sports Officer, K Ravi Singh Sports Officer, Nusrat Gazala Central Sports Officer, coaches, managers and officials were also present on the occasion.
Two days programme commemorating International Youth day concluded at GDC Samba under the banner of Red Ribbon Club with poster making competition. Principal of the college Dr GS Rakwal laid stress on the awareness of youth regarding the ill effect of drug addiction. On the occasion, the judges were Prof Pawan Gupta, Prof Renu Angurana and Prof Renu Rajput. The first prize was bagged by Rupalli Angral whereas Sanjana, Gurcharan Singh and Divya Sharma got 2nd, 3rd and consolation prize respectively.
Red Ribbon Club of GDC Akhnoor celebrated International Youth Day by organizing slogan writing and poster making competitions On ‘Drug De-addiction’. On the occasion, Principal of the college Prof Kuldeep Raj Sharma was the chief guest. Rashi Sharma, Tabbu Rani and Riya Sharma, Munish Kodhi of BA and BSC Semester I bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. The judges of programme were Prof Ravi Kumar, Prof Tarsem Lal and Prof Jyoti Sharma.
GD Goenka Public School Jammu celebrated National Sports Day. On the occasion, the guest of honor was Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh, son of the soil, who has not only made the J&K but the entire nation proud by clinching bronze medal in the Asiad. On the occasion, students spoke on the benefits of sports. Looking into the enthusiasm of primary school children, aDrawing competition was organized for the students of classes III-V on the theme “Sports for All”. Principal of the School Rajesh Rathore was also present and flagged off Cross Country, in which students of classes IX to XII participated.
National Sports Day was celebrated at MHAC with zeal and enthusiasm. Vishal Sharma, Sports Teacher commenced the National Sports Day with an introductory speech on the birth anniversary of Dyan Chand. On the occasion, students presented speeches and other items. Principal Sween Puri was also present on the occasion.
Carmel Convent Higher Secondary School celebrated National Sports Day by conducting a special assembly highlighting the importance of sports in one’s life. Students participated in various sports activities and games. School Principal Sr Maria Swati spoke about the importance of the day.
Minerva Public School Kathua celebrated National Sports Day. A special assembly was conducted by the students of class X, wherein students were made aware of the significance of this day. Inter house symposium and various sports activities were organized in which students participated with enthusiasm. Principal Sheetal Sharma wished apprised the students about the importance of the day.
MV International School organized a special program to celebrate National Sports Day. Ranjeet Kalra Vice Chairman J&K State Sports Council was the chief guest on the occasion, while Surya Bhanu Partap Singh Chib, Bronze Medalist in Wushu at Asian Games 2018 was the star guest of the event. Manpreet Kour and Palak Kour International Gymnasts and Sher-e-Kashmir awardees were the guests of honour. They interacted with the students and shared their vision and the glory of career in sports. Prize distribution in sports for Junior Wing was also organized. Hira Lal Abrol Chairman MV International School graced the occasion by his presence. Namandeep Singh Narania Ex-MVEAN was also honoured during the event. Earlier, KL Dogra, Principal MVIS presented the welcome address. Demonstrations of yoga, gymnastics and taekwondo were held during the event.
National Sports Day was celebrated by the boxers under the chairmanship of Boxing Coach Anil Wadhera at MA Stadium Jammu. 75 boxers of MA stadium took oath to be true sportsmen and will fight against doping.
National Sports Day was celebrated by Hockey Poonch under the aegis of Hockey J&K and under the banner of Hockey India at sports stadium Poonch. Two exhibition matches were played, in which Stadium XI lost to Sham Lal Hockey Club and Stadium Senior defeated Stadium Junior in penalty shoot out. Sports week organized to celebrate National Sports Day concluded at GHS Pouni, in which students and teachers participated actively in various activities. On the occasion, Tehsildar Pouni Rajesh Baru was the chief guest, who awarded the winners in presence of Gopal Sharma ZEO Pouni and Vaishno Devi HM GHS Pouni.
