National Sport Climbing C’ship for Visually Challenged on Mar 27-28

JAMMU, Feb 27: With the confirmation of hosting 1st National Sport Climbing Champ-ionship for Visually Challenged climbers by Mountaineering Association of J&K from March 27 and March 28, 2018 at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu, there has been overwhelming response across the country for participation in this event.
Against the earlier expected participation of about 150 visually Challenged persons the figure may finally touch the 300 mark, if the trend continues.
This was informed by Ram Khajuria, General Secretary Mountaineering Association of J&K and other office bearers while addressing media persons at Press Club here.
They said, the President of Indian Mountaineering Found-ation, New Delhi, Chairman of National Sport Climbing Committee and Chairman, Indian Mountaineering Foundation, North Zone Committee, New Delhi are likely to grace the occasion along with almost all the international and national judges, route setters and other technical officials of India who are very keen to be a part of this unique event being organized for the first time in India.
Buoyed up by the pleasant surprise of substantial participation, the Mountaineering Association of J&K has decided to distribute prizes to the first eight positions instead of the usual first three positions, in both the categories of boys and girls.
Accordingly, the prize money of Rs 30,000 will also be enhanced considerably. The Association has also planned to present a T-Shirt, as a memento, to all the participants and escorts to make it really a memorable event.
Meanwhile, the Association has formed Organising Commit-tee for the efficient and smooth conduct of the maiden National Championship.
While, Ram Khajuria, General Secretary of the Association will be the Chairman, Rahul Sharma, Chairman of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu will be the Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee. Shawetica Khajuria, Joint Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K and an international judge of sport climbing has been chosen as the Organi-zing Secretary of the Compe-tition. The Joint Organizing Secretaries include Yogeshwar Kumar and Khurshid Ahmad, Vice Presidents of Jammu & Kashmir Divisions of the Association respectively and Sonam Sidharath, Joint Secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K.
While expressing his gratitude to the J&K State Sports Council for sponsorship of the competition to a large extent, Ram Khajuria, General Secretary of the Association has also appealed to the corporate sector, the business houses, the prestigious institutions and the general public also to be a part of this unique national event being organized for the first time in the country, by sponsoring some items of the competition or by offering advertisements in the Souvenir to be released on the occasion, so that the Association can organize this prestigious event to such a high level which may be remembered in the country for a long time to come.
