National seminar on ‘Recent Trends in Genomics & Metabolomics’ begins at JU

JAMMU, Mar 17: A two-day National seminar on “Recent Trends in Genomics & Metabolomics” began today here at University of Jammu (JU).
The seminar is being organized by the School of Biotechnology as an activity supported under UGC-SAP programme of the school.
In the inaugural function, Prof RD Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of University of Jammu was the chief guest of the function. Prof Desh Bandhu Gupta, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the guest of honour.
Prof Sharma in his address, motivated the young generation to pursue good science. He emphasized that brilliant minds need to be channelized in the right direction. He also sensitized all the stakeholders to shape the minds of the youngsters who are our future.
Prof Sharma informed that the University has developed world class infrastructure for research and young students need to get benefitted by these facilities. The Vice Chancellor shared his knowledge about genes and genomes highlighting the importance of human genome project.
The keynote speaker Prof SB Babbar from University of Delhi spoke how the omics era is fast changing the face of science especially genomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, etc. He stressed the need for collaborations.
Earlier, Prof Manoj K Dhar, Coordinator, UGC-SAP programme of the School, in his welcome address, elaborated on the mandate of the SAP programme and also appraised about the seminar proceedings, which include technical sessions spread over two days.
Besides eminent scientists, the function was also attended by faculty members from science departments, research scholars and students from various science departments of the University.
The vote of thanks was presented by Prof Jyoti Vakhlu, Director School of Biotechnology and Deputy Coordinator, UGC-SAP programme. Shanu Magotra conducted the proceedings of the function.
