National seminar on Mechanical Engineering held at SMVDU

KATRA, Apr 8: A one-day national seminar on ‘Research Opportunities and Challenges in Mechanical Engineering’ was held at Department of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.
Prof V Verma, Dean Faculty of Engineering, who was chief guest in the inaugural function, spoke about the role of Mechanical Engineers in making India a global power and to make the dream of “Make in India” come true.
Convener of the event, Dr Ankush Anand, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, briefed all the participants about the objective of the seminar, which was aimed at creating awareness among faculty and students who can undertake various collaborative researches. Dr Balbir Singh, HoD Mechanical Engineering, urged the participants to work in various areas of Mechanical Engineering.
The first technical session focused on Biomechanics of Hip Implants, wherein Prof S Gupta from IIT Kharagpur, spoke about various aspects of hip implants and role of biomechanics and advancements in this emerging area of Mechanical Engineering.
Prof R K Pandey from IIT Delhi, deliberated upon ‘Role of Green Technology and Tribology’ as another area of research in Mechanical Engineering. The speaker also discussed about various challenges being faced by researchers in this area.
