National Science Day celebrated

JAMMU, Feb 27: PG Department of Home Science (Human Development), Univer-sity of Jammu organized a poster making and painting competition on the eve of the National Science Day in the premises of J&K Samaj Kalyan School for Hearing Impaired Children, Shaheedi Chowk. The programme was envisioned by Department of Science and Technology to trigger science popularization activities throughout the country and to disseminate scientific education about the current issues of science and technology amongst the citizens of the country. University of Jammu under the office of the Dean Faculty of Science is also celebrating the day by carrying out various scientific activities and open visits to science laboratories by school children. It was in continuation of this that the senior children of the Hearing Impaired School prepared posters on the theme ‘Save environment and Save Earth’. The junior group children also expressed their concern for the environment through paintings. A total of 39 children of the school participated in the activity. The research scholars and post graduate students of the department displayed posters of some well known scientists of Indian including Aryabhatta, CV Raman, Homi J Bhabha, Vikram Sarabhai, Janaki Ammal. Speaking on the occasion, Dean Faculty of Science Prof Rajni Dhingra highlighted the reasons for celebrating the National Science Day. Prof Neeru Sharma, Head of the Department, Dr Sarika Manhas, Asstt Prof, Activity Coordinator, RL Bhan, Principal of the school, Dr Samridhi Arora, Dr Nirojini Bhan, Dr Charu Mohan from the Department of Home Science, OP Verma, senior member, MD Sharma, Treasurer and AK Koul, Manager were also present. Certificates of participation were also distributed on the occasion.
On the occasion of National Science Day, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sunjuwan organized an interaction session with Dr Suavankar Chakraverty and Dr Rahul K Verma from Indian Nano Science Technology Department, Mohali on Nano Technology and its application. The visiting scientists guided the students and resolve the queries concerned to the topic.
